NY, New York: Call for Artists

RE:FORM SCHOOL
http://reformschool.letsredu.com

RE:FORM SCHOOL is a big group art exhibition and event series.  We’ve brought together hundreds of amazing artists for a huge show in New York City designed to send a loud message that the time has come to fix our ailing Public Education System.  As you know, the problem is bad - one out of three students don’t graduate High School in the United States. In many communities that number is almost one in two. We can not allow this to continue. Our children deserve better. We MUST fix this.

Our venue is going to blow minds. We couldn’t have dreamed up a better venue- a recently closed catholic school in SoHo. As in Gymnasium, Cafeteria, 4 floors of classrooms, playground completer with hop scotch & tetherball, globes, chalkboards... The whole kit and caboodle.

We’ve got a really impressive and passionate group of artists aboard, including: Shepard Fairey, Swoon, Chris Johanson, Jo Jackson, Faile, Elbow Toe, Ron English, Maya Hayuk, Gary Baseman, Friends With You, HunterGatherer, iO Tillett Wright, Ernesto Yerena, Andrew Bannecker and over a hundred more.

With the support of REDU, a new mecca for all things education reform (http://www.letsredu.com), we have gathered together an equally passionate array of partners on the project:  CAA Foundation, bing, The Hole (our gallery partner & the former Deitch team), The Brooklyn Guild, The Wooster Collective, tokidoki, ComicCon, The Cultyard, GOOD, Urban Arts Partnership, Karmaloop ... and many more.  We’re always looking for people to help carry the message and for whom we can carry a torch, so don’t hesitate to reach out with ideas and engagement opportunities.

We have invited artists to join our show through an online art contest. Artists will not only have a chance to hang there work at RE:FORM SCHOOL along side these famed artists, but also have their works reviewed by a stellar panel of judges from the arts and education fields, including:

Russell Simmons (Def Jam Records)
Shepard Fairey (Artist)
Rosario Dawson (actress)
Annelle Miller (Director, Society of Illustrators)
Davis Guggenheim (Director, "Waiting for Superman" & “An Inconvenient Truth”)
Wendy Kopp (Founder, Teach for America)
Robert Lynch (CEO & President, Americans for the Arts)
Brett Littman (Exec. Director, The Drawing Center)

5 Grand Prize winning artists will have their work hang with nationally recognized artists at the RE:FORM SCHOOL NYC Gallery space. 30 Second Prize winners will be selected to join the online exhibition. Submissions will be accepted through September 30th, 2010.
