"Toe The Line" is an online art auction to raise funds for the PTA-funded programs at Public School 132 (P.S. 132) in Brooklyn, NY.

Toe the Line was conceived of by Brooklyn-based painter and photographer, Logan Hicks, whose son (Sailor) attends the school. The idea came Hicks while discussing yet another DOE budget cut with his girlfriend, Kristen Zarcadoolas, P.S. 132 PTA President and Sailor's mom.

"There is a lack of resources at every level within the public school system and I want to do all that I can to ensure that my son has a proper education," says Hicks. "There is a moral responsibility to do everything possible to help support public education." He decided to put out a call out to friends to see if they were willing to lend a hand by donating their artwork, prints, or books to be auctioned. "I used the resources I had to help in the best way I could." After calling on his creative friends, Hicks says, "I was thrilled by the response. Nearly everyone said they'd be happy to donate something."

100% of the profits raised will go directly to the P.S. 132 PTA which funds programs such as TADA! Youth Theater, Growing Chefs - Food Education from Field to Fork, and Bent on Learning Yoga.

The Hip Hop Culture Center In Harlem Presents

THE END GUN VIOLENCE RAPATHON

New York, NY—H2C2 brings Rapathon back to Harlem in an effort to help End Gun Violence. The Hip Hop Culture Center is producing a Rapathon to support Harlem Mothers Save.

A Rapathon is an event similar to a Walk-A-Thon. A group of Rappers commit to rap non-stop for multiple hours (no cursing) for every minute that this is successfully done funds are being raised. Monies raised will be donated to the organization Harlem Mothers Save.

Harlem Mothers Save is a group of Mothers who have lost children to gun violence and are committed to making a difference on their slain children's behalf. The goal is to open a new office on 125th St. in NYC. Gun violence is reaching alarming heights in our communities and we intend to be part of the cure. Many people realize how serious this situation is, and supporting us through Rockethub is a great way to help.

The Rapathon will be filmed, and all supporters will have a custom rhyme created and included in the documentary.

H2C2 is a community-based organization best known for conducting Hip Hop centric education youth programs, sneaker battles, artist showcases & expos, art exhibitions, and corporate special events. Our most significant event has been the record-breaking Rapathon, which has proven to be a great outlet for unsigned and upcoming artists to spread their message. Members of the Rapathon Alumni have performed at Summer Jam, been signed to major record labels, and have had a videos directed and produced by Ralph McDaniels.

This unique event will focus on helping to stop the gun violence that has taken over our community. Emcees will rhyme about positive themes to draw attention and help prevent the violence challenging our streets.

The Hip Hop experience begins Saturday, April 6th, 2013 at 10 am at the Kennedy Community Center

The Rapathon is open to anyone with a love for Hip Hop and the ability to rhyme for 90 seconds straight without cursing. If you think you got what it takes, be part of a positive community event, want to showcase your talent, or just want to be amongst your kind of folk', the Rapathon is the place to be.

There will be no fee for emcees to participate but pledges for time rapped are required. There will be a general admission fee for spectators which will help benefit Harlem Mothers Save.

NOoSPHERE Arts, Artforprogress, Amber De Vos, Mike Kronenberg, D'stroy And Rebuild, Joseph Meloy, Moody and many more invite you to a be a part of a positive cause.

The goal of the exhibition/ Artist in residence is to generate financial help for the Alan who has been struggling physically with 2 major injuries in the last year from a close to deadly car accident. Sales on works and donations from friends, family and all attending will be the starting point to help get Alan moving on and out of some hard troubles, and get him the help he needs.

It's been an uphill battle after unsuccessful spinal surgery, dealing with permanent nerve damage and a serious brain injury that happened in June this year. This benefit will hopefully allow some relief for Alan by raising money towards his outrageous medical bills and getting better help.

We hope to see you in January, 2013 to help start a better year for the New York-born and raised, wild child artist Michael Alan. This show is made possible by the help of NOoSPHERE Arts, a fun non-profit artist space in the Lower East Side.

This show will run through Feb 24th, changing every other night, as the artist resides there at night drawing his heart out marathon style with the inner mantra of Get Strong, Get Better! Keep coming back to see new work and the progress of recovery. The back room acts as a room of recovery through art, and a change of energy as the new year is upon us. its is part of the 2-year anniversary show of Nosphere arts, in the main room.

NYC LIC, Nov. 9-Dec 7, 2012 - Escaping Logik - Art in exchange for supplies for storm-hit families

I'm inviting you all to come check out this art show I'm having Nov. 9th. I considered postponing this show due to the recent hurricane, but I decided it is a good opportunity to pull people together do something positive. I understand a lot of folks can't travel and what not.

Those who can get up to Long Island City for a night of cool art, live music by Skye Steele's Hot Holy Mess, and free drinks will be in for a heart-warming time.

Also, I will be giving out FREE ART to people who BRING SUPPLIES that are needed for folks in areas such as Far Rockaway. We have access to a cargo van that can be filled with supplies, and brought to people who still have needs. Fine Art in Space in LIC will be bringing supplies to affected areas and helping out people with what we can. Anything will help, but the most needed items are blankets and food.

Even though we are all feeling the hurricane blues, take time to come out, look at some art, and interact with your community. Please come and enjoy a night out, and help me fill a van with supplies for fellow New Yorkers!

Escaping Logik

New York, New York - October 25, 2012 – Escaping Logik is a solo exhibition presented at Fine Art in Space by Brooklyn-based artist, Anthony Pugh. The show opens with a reception on Friday, November 9th from 7:00 pm-10:00 pm. Anthony will be presenting acrylic painted works, as well as over 100 watercolor pieces. In conjunction with his new work, he is releasing a limited edition sketchbook entitled Escaping Logik.

The works collected for the show encompass numerous themes such as Anthony’s personal commentary on social interpretations of historical figures, graffiti stories, and urban/rural mythology – he has secretly listened to a fictional conversation between Malcolm X and Robert Johnson. Anthony runs towards a creative vindication: shaping and developing a narrative about an evolving Negroid sentinel character, who is on the brink of breaking free from the contradictions of his environment and from the struggle to maintain his identity. The paintings depict the possibility of freedom from the barriers of social isolation and the constant flux between black & white.

Logik was once an alias for the artist, but now it is a metaphor for an evolving personal mythology, which he resists but cannot deny. Escaping Logik is influenced by Anthony’s experience as a graffiti artist, his love of comic books, and his fine art education.

Anthony Pugh is a freelance illustrator, comic book artist, and a dedicated painter. Some of his clients include: DDBO, Phoenix New Times, Mecca Clothing, Kid Robot, Spike DDB, Pepsi Cola, 11211 Magazine, Vessel Drinkware, City Pages, and The Village Voice.
