OR, Portland: May 30, 2013: Printed Matters

Street/Gallery artist and curator "Mad One" will present and team up with The Screaming Sky Gallery in Portland,OR to host this one of a kind exhibit "Printed Matters", a showcase of local and international artists, graphic designers, graffiti artists and of course avid print makers. The show will feature unique prints available in limited editions as well as in an array of print making mediums. During the opening reception we will have a handful of surprises like  plenty of sticker giveaways, free handouts throughout the night provided by our sponsors like energy drinks, clothes, magazines, dvds and limited edition items produced by showcasing artists and much more….Also did we mention 95% of the art is for Sale!

So both you and I know these types of shows are on the rise and there have been several Graffiti/Urban art themed shows throughout the city the last few years and this is one of a kind for sure “Mad One”, a Portland based street/gallery artist and curator, had the opportunity to lock down a variety of talented artists here locally, throughout the states as well as internationally for this group show.We have artists ranging from New York to California,Canada, the U.K. and beyond.

“Printed Matters” is primarily designed around supporting the urban art movement and bringing awareness to the artists involved and how they have gone from the streets to modern figures being displayed in today’s galleries and museums. Also the curator really wanted to shed light on the different mediums/methods used in printmaking and at the same time expose these rare pieces for all to see and or possibly take home. “Mad One”, a street art advocate, has taken on the duty of curating this one of a kind show as well as putting together some great line-ups in years past throughout different galleries in the U.S.

Here are the details, hope to see you there!! Feel free to share,re-post etc...

New Book: BANKSY. YOU ARE AN ACCEPTABLE LEVEL OF THREAT

Unlike the small paperbacks of yesteryear, this new Banksy book will make a spot for itself on your coffee table. It's in full color and showcases lots of his recent work - it's mostly full-page photos - interspersed with cheeky remarks from various sources. It's just the sort of unreliable narrative you'd expect from Banksy. A lovely collectible volume.

CA, San Francisco: August 7-29, 2010: Friends With Knives

From the first stencils recorded in human history where hands were placed on cave walls and spit upon with watered paint pigments, to the multilayered, political, and emotional stencils of today; stencil graffiti and stencil art has and will be here for generations to come. Crewest is proud to announce Friends With Knives, a group show curated by PaperMonster, featuring a collection of stencil artists who demonstrate a broad range of stencil graffiti styles including photorealistic, political, pop, abstract, and stencil art focusing purely on beauty.

The artists come from all walks of life as well as from all over the world including Australia, United Kingdom, Paris, and throughout the United States. The show is not about how intricate, how many layers, or how much time it took these artists to cut each stencil but about showcasing the history, evolution, and future of stencil art. Paper Monster, the exhibits curator, has this to say about bringing the Friends With Knives to Crewest Gallery: “I chose to put these artists together for many different reasons. Some of the artists I have either been a fan of or have had the honor of showing with, collaborating, or meeting by chance in my life. As a whole we push each other and hopefully push the creativity of the stencil graffiti/art community. Being stencil artists we have a common bond and we know the hardships and struggles that come with the work that we do. The process of cutting stencils can be grueling and demanding. It is extremely difficult to gain respect and admiration for the huge amount of work and dedication that we put in our work from the art world but we are willing to do everything in our power to share our talent with the world. Many of us have been creating stencils for five to ten years and some of us are relatively unknown artists that deserve an opportunity to shine. My hope is that everyone in the show uses this opportunity to support their love and hopefully they will be leaders in the future as they continue to push stencil art further.”
