Momentum Art Tech brings the gritty passion and often misunderstood graffiti world to life comic-book-style with Modern Urban Legends, the first comic book series visualizing the realities and harshness of graffiti-writing culture.  This story, written by artist TEEL ONE, is artistically created to open your eyes on this overshadowed society. 

Hundreds of books and magazines have told the story and documented graffiti culture, but this is the first comic book series based on real life stories from one of Chicago's most well-known graffiti writers. The series portrays the challenges its main character, RAZE faces in school, with his peers and living this underground lifestyle. Creatively designed visuals support the story with background tags and subtle references to past and current writers and artists.

IL, Chicago: September 19 opens for fall 2012: James Prigoff - The History of Graffiti

Loyola University Chicago's School of Communication will host the work of James Prigoff, spraycan art photographer, for an exhibit opening on Wednesday, September 19, 2012 in Chicago.

This event is free and open to the public, and will include a lecture on the history of graffiti by Prigoff at 3:00 p.m. at 111 E. Pearson in Regents Hall that we strongly encourage folks to attend.

Then, beginning at 5:30 p.m in the School of Communication at 51 E. Pearson, a Chicago artist will do a live graffiti demonstration and we will open the gallery to tours. The photographer and artist will host a Q&A of their work, and a reception with drinks and hors d'oeuvres will commence.

James Prigoff is an author, photographer and lecturer on the subject of worldwide urban murals. He is one of the most important photographers of aerosol art on the international scene. He started worldwide documentation of murals in the late 1960s. His interest would eventually lead him to aerosol art (graffiti). His personal photographs comprise one of the most extensive collections of aerosol art in the world. During the late 1970s and the early 1980s, Prigoff documented many aerosol art movements (from their infancy) across the United States and abroad. He is the author of "Spraycan Art," a premiere resource in the study of modern day graffiti. He has lectured extensively around the world and is credited as being one of the major forces in giving dignity and credibility to an art form that once was considered to be only vandalism.

BY THE TIME I GET TO ARIZONA mural project is a collaboration of several artists throughout the country. This mural, as executed by the Momentum Art Team over a period of two days, is located in a Chicago Westside neighborhood. Their goal was to recreate Chuck D's venture into the fine art medium for everyone to see.  Chuck D, working in conjunction with Scenefour Art Collective, used this project to focus on the problems associated with ill-conceived immigration policies in Arizona. Watch as Momentum Art completely translates this message on a large scale.

RK Design: “Polymetric” Exhibition @ Murphy Hill Gallery

The name of the show “Polymetric” is taken from the term used by some writers to describe West African drumming. This term immediately alludes to the multiplicity of the music which it describes and it also serves as a fitting metaphor to exemplify the array of styles, personalities, and “non linear dynamic” that defines the RK design collective. As author John Miller Chernoff acknowledged in his book, “African Rhythm and African Sensibility” (1979), “You should attempt to hear as many rhythms as possible working together yet remaining distinct.”

"Pop Station" is a storefront pop-up art gallery at 2620 W. Washington during Chicago Artist Month. Coordinated by The Chicago Department of Cultural Affairs, The Phantom Gallery Chicago Network, FG Commercial Real Estate, and artist Erik DeBat. The pop-up partnership brings a month long walk up viewing of urban contemporary artwork at L&H Bold Lofts a "Green" LEED Certified commercial space in East Garfield Park.

The striking two-story, 3,600 square foot white terra cotta showroom with elegant fluted pilasters displaying a frieze of repeated Greek key motif and rosettes. The beautiful foliated cornice is marked with lion heads and an entry that leads into a lobby and the formal entrance to the showroom.

The artwork will be viewable all month, plus open door viewings at the reception on Friday, October 22nd 2010, from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m., on Sunday October 31st from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. during the East Garfield Park Art Walk, and the show closing on Thursday, November 4th 2010 from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m.

The location has plenty of on street parking and is accessible by the CTA Green Line's California & Lake Station or the Western Avenue Bus. On display in this landmark space, is a selection of recent pieces from the artist's collection of contemporary urban artworks. The large-scale pop abstraction paintings and street sculpture installations are complimented by video and sound collaborations.

Erik DeBat has recently exhibited at the Swope Art Museum, IUN for Contemporary Art in Indiana, the Beverly Art Center, the Co-Prosperity Sphere, and Johalla Projects in Chicago.
