New Book: BANKSY. YOU ARE AN ACCEPTABLE LEVEL OF THREAT

Unlike the small paperbacks of yesteryear, this new Banksy book will make a spot for itself on your coffee table. It's in full color and showcases lots of his recent work - it's mostly full-page photos - interspersed with cheeky remarks from various sources. It's just the sort of unreliable narrative you'd expect from Banksy. A lovely collectible volume.

IL, Chicago: September 19 opens for fall 2012: James Prigoff - The History of Graffiti

Loyola University Chicago's School of Communication will host the work of James Prigoff, spraycan art photographer, for an exhibit opening on Wednesday, September 19, 2012 in Chicago.

This event is free and open to the public, and will include a lecture on the history of graffiti by Prigoff at 3:00 p.m. at 111 E. Pearson in Regents Hall that we strongly encourage folks to attend.

Then, beginning at 5:30 p.m in the School of Communication at 51 E. Pearson, a Chicago artist will do a live graffiti demonstration and we will open the gallery to tours. The photographer and artist will host a Q&A of their work, and a reception with drinks and hors d'oeuvres will commence.

To register for this free event or for more information, please visit http://socexhibit.eventbrite.com/

James Prigoff is an author, photographer and lecturer on the subject of worldwide urban murals. He is one of the most important photographers of aerosol art on the international scene. He started worldwide documentation of murals in the late 1960s. His interest would eventually lead him to aerosol art (graffiti). His personal photographs comprise one of the most extensive collections of aerosol art in the world. During the late 1970s and the early 1980s, Prigoff documented many aerosol art movements (from their infancy) across the United States and abroad. He is the author of "Spraycan Art," a premiere resource in the study of modern day graffiti. He has lectured extensively around the world and is credited as being one of the major forces in giving dignity and credibility to an art form that once was considered to be only vandalism.

CA, Oakland: reopens Sept. 17 - Special Delivery 2012

Official site: http://www.endlesscanvas.com/specialdelivery2012/
Check this site for open hours coming September 17.

Coverage: http://oaklandlocal.com/posts/2012/09/endless-canvas-opens-sistine-chapel-graffiti-art-community-voices

"Its in Our Blood" Artist: Griffin One / Special Delivery Exhibit 2012
Griffin Wall & background pillar "Candel-totempole" are found on the top floor/3rd story.

SPECIAL DELIVERY is a large scale mural exhibition featuring a number of prolific street artists from the Oakland / San Francisco Bay Area.

We’re bringing SPECIAL DELIVERY back to home base and stepping up our game by painting an entire 36,000 square foot, three story warehouse! The building we have been invited to paint has been vacant for over a decade and has a long history of presence in the local graffiti art scene. It was recently purchased by a Bay Area based firm with plans to refurbish the building into a permanent office facility. The owner of the company happens to be on the board for the OMCA (Oakland Museum of California) . As an inspired art enthusiast, he noticed some of the graffiti in the building was done by the very same artists whom are currently exhibiting at the OMCA. Saddened by the destruction of this museum worthy artwork and the cultural history behind it, he asked Endless Canvas to invite the artists back to restore the graffiti in the warehouse.

What has resulted is a three part project. Part one: a professional photographer has documented all of the graffiti pieces in the building. Part two: we will be hosting the SPECIAL DELIVERY Art Show. For this we have invited over 20 of the Bay Area’s most prolific street artists to paint the interior space of the building, to be exhibited for public view in September. The new pieces will be documented thoroughly then later removed for necessary renovation of the warehouse. It will take about a year to refurbish the building. Once this process is complete, a selection of artists will be invited back to install permanent murals on the interior walls of the building. All three stages will be documented and followed by a published book sharing the project as a whole.

All of the participating artists have spent a significant amount of time creating works of public art in the Bay Area. Some have been featured in museums and documentaries and others are home town heroes in the underground art scene.
