London Miles Gallery is hosting an afternoon with Duster UA on December 4th, 2010. Curated by Paul 'Don' Smith, Duster will be traveling outside of the USA for the first time in his life, to give a talk about his legendary career as a New York subway graffiti artist during the '70s and '80s. The afternoon will include an exhibition of original and rare photographs from Henry Chalfant and Martha Cooper authors of 'Subway Art', an exhibition of limited edition prints and artwork by Duster, and a one hour talk with the artist as he talks through his experiences as a New York train writer.
Visitors to the event will enjoy a private screening of Style Wars; the original Hip Hop documentary directed by Tony Silver and co- produced with Henry Chalfant. The film was awarded the Grand Prize for Documentaries at the 1983 Sundance Film Festival. STYLE WARS is regarded as the indispensable documentation of New York street culture and subway art of the early '80s, the filmic record of a golden age of youthful creativity that exploded into the world from a city in crisis. A percentage of all ticket sales will go to the restoration fund of Style Wars. For more information visit www.stylewars.com

Download cards for your music
DiscRevolt sells cards (like phone cards but for music) that you can put artwork on along with your Web address. The code lets your fans download your music, using DiscRevolt's platform embedded on your site. You can give it away or sell it, using this method.
You've probably already seen music cards, but what makes this kind interesting is that you can have them printed on seed paper instead of plastic.
[I haven't tried this service, and this is not an advertisement. The service just looks interesting and I thought you'd want to know. If you've tried it, please tell me how well it works for you.]

CA, San Francisco: Nov 13-Dec 4, 2010: Fosik, Venom, Riley
AJ Fosik, Ben Venom, Erin Riley
Guerrero Gallery, November 13th – December 4th
Guerrero Gallery is please to present new works by AJ Fosik, Ben Venom, and Erin Riley. With a focus on traditional craft, a seemingly almost extinct skill in today's highly digitized world, this exhibition aims to bring light and exposure to the hands-on work of each of these very distinct artists. Evident in the bold and contemporary works by Fosik, Venom and Riley, is each artist's personal style and approach. With an invested personal connection to the pieces they create, they confront and challenge different themes by embedding chosen themes through their craft.
AJ Fosik's creation of figural, intricately designed three-dimensional animals and anthropomorphized beings involves hundreds of individually cut and vanished pieces of wood. His work, evocative of American Folk Art, draws inspiration from subversive cultural inluences that shift complacency. By incorporating appealing familiar symbols and aspects, his pieces provoke a suspension of comfort. AJ Fosik is originally from Detroit and received a BFA from Parsons School of Design in New York.
Ben Venom's pillows, quilts and embroidery simultaneously mock and pay tribute to the encounter between two seemingly opposing forces. His interest in bringing together traditional handmade craft and the extremes of Heavy Metal culture is not an attempt to organize chaos into conservatism, but to provide a reinterpretation through a different medium. Ben Venom received an MFA from the San Francisco Art Institute and currently lives in San Francisco.
Erin Riley's tapestries, woven from a Macomber floor loom with hand dyed wool yarn, are a series of pieces inspired by the images produced by the internet generation. The series is a product of her research into the symptoms and results of various themes, including addiction and single-parent households. Drawn to images of self-discovery, experimentation, regression, development, her works depict a generation of excess and confusion. Erin Riley received an MFA from the Tyler School of Art in Philadelphia, where she currently lives.

Prints from Iconoclast
Iconoclast ships prints just about anywhere. They have two notable new releases this week:
November is another a big month for new releases from Iconoclast. We have published Robbie Conal's new print Contra Cocaine -- a hand-pulled silkscreen with glitter touches. Contra Cocaine (1988) is one of many highlights in Conal's twenty-five year arc as painter and political provocateur, and is one of his most legendary and widely influential paintings-cum-political posters. In 1988, Robbie and his volunteer postering crews disseminated his most infamous portrait of Ronald Reagan, entitled Contra Diction – a notorious image, which along with Contra Cocaine, have become recognized all over the world as defining images of 1980s American politics. The Contra Cocaine image has never been available until now.
Another high point for this month is the release of a new poster by Os Gemeos, the famed twin duo from Sao Paulo. This is the second release in a trio of official exhibition posters for the Museum of Contemporary Art San Diego's exhibit Viva La Revolucion, curated by Pedro Alonzo. The second poster features the artwork of Os Gemeos' large outdoor mural for the exhibit. This official exhibition poster is free of charge, plus applicable shipping charges.
The third, and final, poster of the series for the MCASD will be by recent 2010 TED Prize recipient JR - to be released next month.

Culver City, CA 90232
Carmichael Gallery is pleased to present Block Party, a group exhibition featuring Boxi, Krystian Truth Czaplicki, Gregor Gaida, Simon Haas and Dan Witz. Block Party aligns the disparate creative practices of five internationally-based contemporary artists. In doing so, the shared intrinsic presence of themes of isolation, beauty and reflection upon self and surroundings in their works are augmented, inviting new dialectical dialogues and considerations.
Artworks included in the exhibition range from works on canvas, wood, MDF and paper to mixed media sculpture, a large site-specific mural installation and a video presentation.
A showcase of new works on paper by Sixeart will be displayed concurrently in the gallery’s largest project room.
Reception: Saturday, November 13 from 6 to 8pm with Boxi and Simon Haas in attendance.

The Art of Ron English
Opening Reception: Friday, November 12th 6:00pm -10:00pm
Orange Coast College - Frank M. Doyle Arts Pavilion
2701 Fairview Rd., Costa Mesa, CA 92626
Parking in Lot D9 (Off Merrimac Street)
The Orange Coast College Frank M. Doyle Arts Pavilion in collaboration with Opera Gallery and Hurley presents Status Factory, a surreal assemblage of over 100 artworks by Ron English. This highly interactive exhibition traces the arc of English's most ambitious themes across mediums.
One of the most prolific and recognizable artists alive today, Ron English has bombed the global landscape with unforgettable images, on the street, in museums, in movies, books, television, and album covers. English coined the term POPaganda to describe his signature mash-up of high and low cultural touchstones, from superhero mythology to totems of art history, populated with his vast and constantly growing arsenal of original characters. Ron English's art, whether in paintings, billboards, murals, or sculpture, blends stunning visuals with the bitingly humorous undertones of America's Premier Pop Iconoclast.
Born in Illinois, Chicago in 1959, Ron English paints, infiltrates, reinvents and satirizes modern culture and its mainstream visual iconography on canvas, in song, and directly onto hundreds of pirated billboards. English exists spiritually somewhere between a cartoon Abbie Hoffman and a grown-up, real-life Bart Simpson, delivering a steady stream of customized imagery laden with strong sociopolitical undertones, adolescent boy humor, subversive media savvy, and Dali-meets-Disney technique. Dedicated to finding the sublime in the everyday and breaking the momentum of the didactic approach to art and life, English offers up an alternative universe where nothing is sacred, everything is subverted, and there is always room for a little good-natured fun.

Free graffiti fonts for a limited time from Geneus1 - FontStruct
Geneus1 asked me to tell you that for a limited time, he has some free graffiti typefaces on FontStruct, which is a web-based application that allows users to design modular typefaces.
His work is here
http://fontstruct.fontshop.com/fontstructors/geneus1/public
and in particular you might like Graffikki, which recently won third place in the FontStruct international design competition, and Throwdown, which earned a special mention in the previous competition. DeTrayne is dedicated to Dondi and Dream.
All of his fonts at FontStruct are free for personal use, but some will be taken offline soon as he is releasing retail versions of them.
FontStruct is a pretty cool little font-fiend/typnerd community, and it's simple to sign up (it's free and you just need an email address), then you can download and make your own fonts there. All fonts are in TrueType format and can be used in any operating system that utilizes them. Each font has a license that is selected by the creator, some are free for personal and commercial usage. Most of Geneus1's are licensed for personal use only.

Vernissage le 6 novembre à 18h
Un petit descriptif de l'exposition.
Light Painting Xperience.

USA: Please vote today! It's crucial
Find your polling place and go: http://colorofchange.org/polls/
There's a lot at stake in this election, things that affect all of us, such as keeping our health care and insurance reforms, creating new jobs and continuing unemployment payments, and not allowing the rich to pillage the poor in tax and banking schemes. In California, the marijuana legalization vote will be a historical battle for sanity in the drug wars. Stand up and be counted, please. It matters.
